Battery fitting

EFB battery replacement

An EFB is the usual stop-start battery when the car doesn't use AGM. We'll fit another EFB, or an AGM if that's the right step up. The fitter comes to you in London, Birmingham or Manchester.

Is this postcode in the fitting area?

What EFB means on the label

EFB means enhanced flooded battery. The plates are built for more cycling than a basic flooded battery, which is why entry stop-start cars use them. The engine cuts at the lights and restarts, and the battery supplies that work all day. A plain flooded battery is not the same part with a different sticker.

Read the old label before you order anything yourself. If it says EFB, the replacement is an EFB, or an AGM if you are upgrading. If it says AGM, you are on the wrong page: an AGM must not be downgraded to EFB. The quote callback is where the label and the car are matched.

Replacement on the driveway or in a bay

The fitter comes to the parked car in London, Birmingham or Manchester. Resting voltage on a healthy 12V battery is around 12.6V. An EFB that has been cycled hard on short trips may be lower and still be due for replacement rather than another jump. Cracked, leaking, swollen or frozen cases are not jumped.

After the fit, charging voltage is often about 13.8 to 14.7V while the new battery is accepting charge. Smart charging can sit lower once the system reports the battery full. The alternator is not a bulk charger, so we do not send you off to drive the battery back to health.

Stop-start and registration

A correct EFB keeps the stop-start system supplied the way the car expects. A flooded substitute often leaves stop-start unavailable, even when the engine still starts. That is a type fault, not a mystery setting in a menu.

Battery registration is commonly required on Volkswagen Group and many BMW and Mini models, and it varies on other marques. Some of those cars are on EFB, some on AGM. Where registration is required it is done at the vehicle with the fit. Mention the make on the quote form so the callback covers it.

Upgrade path

Upgrading an EFB car to AGM is sometimes the right call when the car accepts it and the battery is registered as AGM if the system stores battery type. It is an upgrade, agreed on the callback, not a guess on the day. Downgrading the other way is refused.

Type your mobile number on the quote form and say the car has an EFB, or that you are unsure and have a photo of the label. We call you back. There is no fixed price. Cover is the three cities, at the car, with no depot to visit.

Fit to an EFB car Wrong substitute Correct like-for-like Acceptable upgrade when the car allows
Fit to an AGM car Wrong Wrong: AGM must not be downgraded Correct

Questions before you send a quote

Can you replace an EFB with a normal battery?

No. A plain flooded battery is the wrong substitute for an EFB car.

Can I upgrade from EFB to AGM?

Yes, where the car accepts that upgrade. It is confirmed on the callback, with registration if the model stores battery type.

Will you come to my house?

Yes. We'll come to the car in London, Birmingham or Manchester.

How do I start a quote?

Type your mobile number on the quote form. We call you back. Do not look for a price list on this page.
