Replacement at the parked car
Near you, on this service, means the address where the car is already parked inside London, Birmingham or Manchester. It does not mean a van is waiting on your street. The quote comes first. You type your mobile number, we call you back, and the visit is agreed for that parked car.
You stay with the vehicle or arrange for someone who can open it. The fitter needs the keys, a way to reach the battery, and a legal place to work. A flat battery is a nuisance. It is still a planned fitting visit, not a patrol that is already dispatched.
What we need to know about the location
The callback is shorter when the form says which city, what sort of bay, and whether the battery is under the bonnet, in the boot or under a seat. A resident bay, a workplace compound and a station car park are all workable when you can grant access.
If the car has stopped in a live lane, call 999 before you request a quote. We replace batteries on parked vehicles. We do not attend a hard shoulder as a fitting job. Outside London, Birmingham and Manchester there is no cover, and there is no depot to use instead.
The replacement itself
Once the visit is agreed, the job is a normal replacement. Resting voltage is checked against the rough mark of 12.6V for a healthy 12V battery. The case is inspected. A cracked, leaking, swollen or frozen battery is not jumped. The correct type is fitted, clamped, and registered when the car requires it.
Supply and fit is the usual request on this page: we bring the battery and take the old one away. If you have already bought a battery and want it fitted, use the fitting page and say so on the form. That is a different request, because the part has to be checked before anyone travels.
Jump leads are not the visit
People ask for a replacement near them after several jump starts. Leads can turn an engine. They do not put a sound battery in the tray, and they do not set the charging profile. The alternator is not a bulk charger, so a drive home is a poor plan for a battery that is already failing.
