Battery fitting
Mobile car battery replacement
We'll test the battery, supply the right replacement and fit it at the car. The old one comes away with the fitter. We cover London, Birmingham and Manchester. Leave your number and we'll ring you to confirm the car and the bay.

Mobile battery replacement
A mobile battery replacement starts with the car as it sits. The fitter opens the battery location, checks the case for swelling, cracks or leaks, and reads the resting voltage. A healthy 12V battery rests around 12.6V. A reading well below that, with a slow crank, is a replacement conversation rather than another set of jump leads.
The new battery is matched to the label and to what the car was built with: flooded, EFB or AGM, case size, terminal layout, Ah and cold cranking current. An AGM battery is replaced with AGM. An EFB may be upgraded to AGM. An AGM must not be downgraded. That rule is settled before the part is ordered.
What is tested on the car
Before the clamp comes off, the fitter notes how the car behaves. A click and no crank points one way. A crank that fades after short trips points another. With the engine running, charging voltage is often about 13.8 to 14.7V, but smart charging can sit lower once the battery is reported full.
The alternator is not a bulk charger. Driving a deeply discharged battery around the block does not restore it the way a controlled charge or a new battery does. If the case is cracked, leaking, swollen or frozen, the battery is not jumped at all. Tell us that on the quote form so the visit is planned around a damaged case.
Registration, hold-down and the old battery
Many replacements also need the new battery written into the car. Battery registration is commonly required on Volkswagen Group and many BMW and Mini models, and it varies on other marques. The scan tool records the new unit so the charging strategy is not left on the profile of the old one.
The hold-down goes back on. A battery that can shuffle in the tray will crack the case over potholes. Terminals are cleaned and tightened so the clamp does not twist by hand. On a supply-and-fit visit the old battery is taken away. It does not belong in household rubbish.
- Negative lead off first, positive lead off second, as workshop practice
- Positive lead back on first, negative lead back on last
- Hold-down refitted before the bonnet or trim is closed
- Registration done when that model requires it
Where replacement is carried out
The fitter comes to the parked car in London, Birmingham or Manchester. Driveways, workplace bays, resident bays and car parks are the normal settings. There is no depot. If the car is in a live lane, call 999 before you ask for a quote.
Send the quote form with the registration number, the battery location if you know it, and your mobile number. We call you back to confirm the type and the visit. The form is the request. The callback is where the job is agreed.
| Situation | Jump leads | Replacement at the car |
|---|---|---|
| Engine barely turns and the battery is several winters old | One start, then the same fault | Supply and fit the specified battery |
| Case is cracked, leaking, swollen or frozen | Do not jump | Replace without connecting leads |
| Stop-start warning after a basic battery was fitted | Leads do not change the type | Fit EFB or AGM and register if required |
| Car stopped in a live lane | Leave it to the emergency services | Call 999 before a quote |
Questions before you send a quote
Is a mobile battery replacement the same as a jump start?
No. A jump may turn the engine. Replacement removes the failed battery and fits the correct one at the car.
Do you take the old battery?
On a supply-and-fit visit, yes. The old unit leaves with the fitter.
Will you register the new battery?
When the model needs it. That is common on Volkswagen Group and many BMW and Mini cars, and it varies on other marques. The callback confirms the car.
How do I book?
You do not book from a menu. Leave your number and we'll call you back.
