Hybrid 12V battery replacement
On a hybrid or electric car the job is the 12V auxiliary battery, the one that runs the control systems. It isn't the high-voltage traction pack. Orange cables stay alone. We'll fit the correct 12V unit at the car.
Two batteries, only one of them is this job
A hybrid has a high-voltage traction battery that moves the car, and a 12V auxiliary battery that runs the computers, locks and the contactors that allow the system to wake. This service replaces the 12V battery. It does not open, test or replace the traction pack.
When the 12V battery is flat, the car may not show Ready even though the traction battery is charged. That is a familiar fault. It is still a 12V job if the auxiliary battery is the failed part. The quote confirms which battery you mean.
Where the 12V battery sits
On many hybrids it is in the boot or under a panel in the rear, sometimes AGM. The same rules apply. An AGM is replaced with AGM. It is not downgraded because the car is a hybrid. Registration is commonly required on Volkswagen Group and many BMW and Mini models and varies on other marques, including hybrid versions.
The fitter comes to the parked car in London, Birmingham or Manchester. Trim comes off, the 12V unit comes out, the hold-down goes back. Orange cables are not unplugged to make access easier.
After the 12V battery is in
The car should wake and allow a Ready state if the 12V supply was the reason it would not. Resting voltage on a healthy 12V battery is around 12.6V. Charging behaviour can differ from a simple alternator. Smart charging, or the hybrid DC-DC converter that feeds the 12V system, can sit lower once the battery is reported full. That converter is still not a bulk charger for a ruined battery.
Type your mobile number and say it is a hybrid 12V battery. We call you back. There is no fixed price. A cracked, leaking, swollen or frozen 12V case is not jumped. The traction battery remains outside the visit.
Questions before you send a quote
Will you replace the hybrid drive battery?
No. Only the 12V auxiliary battery. The high-voltage pack is outside this service.
The car will not go to Ready. Is that the 12V battery?
It can be. The callback checks the symptoms and the 12V battery location before a visit is agreed.
Are orange cables part of the fit?
No. They are left alone.
A worked example
A hybrid on a drive in Hackney will not show Ready. The 12V auxiliary battery in the boot is flat and the label says AGM. The fitter replaces that AGM like for like, registers it if the model needs it, and leaves every orange cable untouched. The traction battery is not quoted, opened or removed.
Safety
Do not touch orange high-voltage cables. Do not disconnect the traction battery. Do not jump a cracked, leaking, swollen or frozen 12V case. This visit is the 12V auxiliary battery only.
